Welsh Lady

The photographs featured in this article are the modern day interpretation of the ‘Welsh Lady’. In the 19th Century the ‘Welsh Lady’ costume was used for special events and day trips, with Saint David’s Day seeing every Primary School girl wearing the traditional dress of our country. As The Valleys proved, that love of dressing up and self presentation never leaves us. These women are the modern “Welsh lady” – out to impress and proud of their style and Welsh-ness in tandem. These online influenced, individual outfits stand out against a bleak Valleys backdrop. We’re not trying to escape from our roots, but allow these mountains and traditions to fit into a current Welsh lady aesthetic.
