Polyester Wears Dr. Martens BUZZ - Get Behind the Scenes with the Girls Who Make the Zine’s Community So Exciting

If there’s one thing that has defined Polyester over the last decade, it’s our community. From writers and artists to social media mavens, we’re an ever-evolving collective of women, non-binary people and femmes, whose work challenges the status quo. We’ve partnered with Dr. Martens to celebrate the launch of their BUZZ shoe with the gals who make Polyester pop, pairing the team’s original style and eye for the cutting edge with the newest It shoe.

That balance between internet culture and real life connection is especially crucial to our mission, because between the digital realm and our in-person events, we’re able to make room for everyone, as our Platform Editor Charlotte Amy Landrum explains.

“It’s very helpful to have all the resources of the internet from the comfort of your own home so you can start learning, creating and sharing,” she says. The beauty of Polyester, however, is that the IRL and URL enhance each other, Charlotte continues:  “I love everyone sharing their thoughts and creations online, as it makes all my scrolling seem worthwhile, everyone tapping into each other's ideas,” she says. “At the same time, though, it’s really fulfilling meeting the same people in the flesh, being involved in organising events, and building relationships with them.”

Like a lot of our contributors, Kyra Montenegro – our PR and Partnerships whizz – feels comfortable in both environments. “I see the digital and real-life worlds as two sides of the same creative empire. I start online, where ideas spread fast, and tiny interactions can spark something bigger. But the real magic happens when we can bring that digital buzz into the real world, whether through live events, meet-ups, or experiences that leave an indelible mark, where every handshake is a gateway to collaboration,” she enthuses.

Polyester, of course, wouldn’t exist without the fruits of collaboration, and the different inspirations, flavours and vibes that each of our contributors brings means we’re always producing something unique, creating a patchwork of past, present and future. The original combos of every single BUZZ gal - in this feature and throughout the pages of Polyester - couldn’t be possible without drawing inspo from every cool girl that has come before us. As Polyester contributor Isabella Greenwood puts it, “Everyone is just collaging different influences together. In that way, we’re always looking to the future, using our knowledge of everything that has gone before to search ever-further corners of the internet for the next talking point, and actively pushing boundaries to imagine a world that welcomes everyone, all the while inviting topics that our readers might not hear about elsewhere. As our contributor Haaniyah Angus puts it, “no idea is too niche or too unkempt to be told,” and she’s right – we tell the stories that you’ll hear about in the mainstream later on.

It’s only through community, however, that all this is possible and our BUZZ babes exemplify the undeniable motivation that an encouraging sisterhood gives one another. As Kyra puts it: “We push each other to experiment, and rewrite the rules. The unspoken camaraderie comes from knowing that every idea, no matter how wild, holds the potential to set trends and inspire revolutions. This shared passion and fierce support make every project feel like the beginning of something iconic.”
