Glad Rags: Emily Nash on Keeping it Casual
How important is clothing to you for a stage presence?
As long as I’m comfy I think that’s all that matters, I do think wearing a cool or unusual bright top can help as people will remember that a lot more than just wearing black. But I normally just wear black flares with a black crop top.

Do you have a different style on stage compared to off stage?
When I am on stage I like to be comfy so my style is pretty relaxed, off stage I love wearing baggy jeans and crop tops. I find a lot of my clothes are loose but my tops are always pretty fitted. I love Vintage Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, Ralph Lauren and The North Face - I also love Unknown London
Do you think image is important for musicians wanting to be successful?
I don’t think that image should be the main reason you’re successful as your music should lead but I do think that it can help.
Who are some of your style inspirations as an artist?
I love Nia Archives, she has a really cool style and Rubi Ward as well. Jorja Smith wears a lot of Unknown London which I rate.
What is your favourite piece of clothing to wear on stage and why?
Black Flares are always my go to - they are skin tight so easy to move in and means I can relax when I am playing.
What is your favourite piece of clothing to wear offstage and why?
I have some vintage Tommy Hilfiger denim cargo pants that I wear all the time that I found on ASOS Vintage Marketplace. I also have a classic pair of blue Nike Dunks that I love to wear because they are super comfy.
Do you think people look down on musicians who like fashion too and if so, why?
I have never come across it - Some of the most successful musicians in the world embrace fashion and even have their own clothing lines. Fashion and music are so closely linked and massively compliment one another, it’s actually really inspiring.
How has your style evolved alongside your journey as an artist?
My confidence has grown as my artist career has started to take off and I feel more open to wearing new things and trying out new styles. I love discovering new brands on the internet and also run my own Depop shop so always keep an eye out!
What advice would you give someone struggling to find their image as an artist?
I wouldn’t force yourself to find a style, just let it come naturally. Wear clothes you feel happy in and that make you feel confident.
